KFMA Extension Ag Economist Position Available

The Kansas Farm Management Association – Northeast Area is hiring an Extension Agricultural Economist.

The division has offices in Holton, Hiawatha and Council Grove, Kan., and provides a farm business analysis educational program to member farm families in a 16-county area. Principal crops are soybeans, corn, wheat, grain sorghum and alfalfa. This is also a livestock intensive area of Kansas. Average farm size is 1,700 acres.

Dalton and Muhammad

Dr. Timothy Dalton, K-State Agricultural Economics, and Dr. Lutta Muhammad, Kenya Agricultural Research Institute, are working together to study water-efficient maize for Africa.

Welcome Dr. Lutta Muhammad!

Dr. Muhammad works with the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute in Loresho, Nairobi. He is spending this week at K-State working with Dr. Timothy Dalton on research of water-efficient maize for Africa. 

Dalton and Muhammad have co-authored a study, “Behavioral Determinants of Adaptation to Climate Change: Selection of Drought Tolerant Maize Seed using Framed Field Experiments in Kenya.”

National Needs Fellowship Program Available

The Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University is pleased to announce it has been selected by the USDA NIFA National Needs Graduate Fellowship Program to offer Fellowships in Agricultural Management and Economics with emphasis on Resource Economics and Alternative Energy.

The paid assistantships will be awarded to outstanding students entering the M.S. and Ph.D.  programs during Fall 2011 or Fall 2012. This unique Fellowship will prepare graduates to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams addressing the production of biofuels and other renewable energy from agricultural feedstocks and its interface with the environment and rural economy. The funding for this program is provide by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
